China Wakes (Zhong Guo Jue Xing Le): The Struggle for the Soul of a Rising Power |
 |
This is the paperback version of the popular book. The
authors were reporters of the New York Times stationed in Beijing from
1988 to 1993. They are a husband-wife team, the wife being a Chinese-American.
The two western journalists wrote about what they observed while in
China when China is at a critical time of becoming a great political and
economic power. The book is full of interesting stories such as the ones of
WuDunn's visit to the Guangdong village of her ancestors and how her grandpa's name became WuDunn which doesn't sound like Chinese at all. The information
and analysis they presented are of great reference value..
Excellent reading for anyone interested in contemporary Chinese
society and history.
